Delivery Update 3/9/22

Hi friends!! It has been months since I’ve been on here to make any updates so for that I do apologize but also thank you for your patience. I’m here to do two things today: Do an update for a delivery we did in March 2022 and to update about where we are with the push today.

Delivery #8 on 3/9/2022 Update -
As a preface to this feeding, I’d like to share some backstory.

I was blessed enough to be born on March 9th, which also happens to be the birthday of my late paternal grandfather, Papang. Being that he was dearly loved by my family, each year on/or around March 9th, my parents do a community feeding for the kids. In their city of Himamaylan, there is a street named Meñez Street and sometimes they’ll do a festival there in honor of me and Papang. It really is an honor to be celebrated along with my grandpa and I wish I had had the chance to meet him.

This past March 9th, my parents did a feeding on our behalf. We donated $200 (thank you to Janet Chang’s donation for the ability to help feed the kids) in conjunction with my brother and his foundation, to help feed the kids in the community.

I didn’t have a chance to update immediately as our entire household came down with a nasty cold that put us all out through my birthday and days following. So again, thank you for your patience.

Where we are today with our giving -

As I mentioned above, my brother had started a foundation that also helped to feed the kids on March 9. He streams on Facebook and takes the money generated from his streams to help feed kids in my parents’ area. It’s wonderful that he started that because now the giving can be a lot more consistent. However on another note, that left very little open resources for our giving to continue within the community we had previously been targeting. On top of that, the clean water drive that my cousin’s water shop had been part of also been put on hold indefinitely after part of their team had to go into quarantine a couple of months ago. Needless to say, most of the drives to help typhoon victims in the hard hit areas have stopped. Because of these factors, our giving projects had to be halted.

As far as funding goes, we have spent a total of $1665, leaving us $2425 left to spend.

After speaking with my mom and voicing my frustrations with her about not having a consistent outlet to share resources with the community, she said she is willing to restart the effort and continue to help us. I would like to get the funds out to help everyone ASAP as this money on my hands is a huge burden that I don’t feel comfortable holding. This money isn’t meant to be held in my PayPal account. It needs to be out helping those who need it.

So here is my plan:

I’d like to do a 3-pronged approach.

1) HELP FEED: To make it easier on my parents and their team, I’ll chat with my brother about doing a side-by-side effort and helping to feed the community together,

2) HELP THE KIDS WITH SCHOOL: I’d like to help supply the community with school supplies for the kids which is something I may also be able to do alongside with my brother’s foundation, and

3) THINK AHEAD: One of the main issues when typhoons hit is electricity. I would like to give each family a solar powered device that allows phone charging and lighting for night time. I can buy these over Amazon for $22 and ship them through Atlas Shippers.

I’m particularly excited about #3. Stay tuned.
